Jude Bellingham Must Eliminate the Nonsense to Earn a Star Position Under Coach Tuchel.
For Bellingham to hopes to earn his place once again into England’s best team, it would be smart to cut out the unnecessary reactions. His reaction when he saw that his number was going up after an evening of mixed performance in the match against Albania fell short of expectations.
"I prefer not to blow it out of proportion but I stand by my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect for the squad members who enter the game," Tuchel said. "Substitutions happen and you need to comply being a professional."
There is a lesson for Bellingham. There was no need for a strop. Kane had only moments earlier made it the Three Lions leading by two in an inconsequential qualifier, with only six minutes remaining and he, following an inconsistent display, was just shown a yellow for a foul on an opponent. This was hardly a debatable decision. But Bellingham made himself the center of attention. It was impossible to miss the 22-year-old’s annoyance when he clocked that his replacement was ready for a teammate. His arms went up in exasperation and although he exchanged a handshake on his way to the bench it was obvious that the manager was displeased.
This represents the hurdle for Bellingham. He praised Marcus Rashford for providing the assist for the captain to score the team's second, but the rest was harmful to his cause. It is not as if arguing was going to alter the decision. Tuchel has talked so much about respecting team hierarchies and the importance of showing proper conduct.
In the Spotlight
He, not included in the team last month, has been under scrutiny after returning to the fold recently. Practically he was being assessed and his actions haven't benefited him through his behavior to being taken off as the side rounded off a ideal group stage by defeating a tough opposition from Albania.
Tactics and Formation
This implies opinions are divided on whether the team function at their best when Bellingham plays. The performance was inconclusive. Some new ideas were tested by the coach at the start. He has provided the team organization and direction in recent months, using a holding player, a No 8, a playmaker and out-and-out wingers, but there was a different feel in this match. Connection Remains
Still, though, the focus was on Bellingham. The excellence of Rashford’s assist for Kane’s header was partly forgotten in the ridiculousness of the Rogers substitution. After the final whistle, all eyes were on the midfielder. The coach approached behind him and directed Bellingham in the direction of the away supporters. Their relationship remains intact. Tuchel is not willing to give up on him at this stage. But if the coach is prepared to grant him the central position is not guaranteed.
